Prague, Czech Republic, May 21, 2011 - The final of the 2011 Swatch World Tour Prague Open will be a rematch of last year. Americans Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers will defend their 2010 gold medal against silver medalists Alison and Emanuel from Brazil on Sunday in the Stavanice Stadium. Olympic champions Dalhausser and Rogers lead the head-to-head results by 8-1.

Alison and 2004 Olympic champion Emanuel reached the final by defeating qualifiers Sascha Heyer and Sebastian Chevallier in two sets (21-10, 21-14) in just 30 minutes. The Swiss team, only playing their second FIVB tournament together, surprisingly beat top teams like fourth seeded Americans Matt Fuerbringer/Nick Lucena, European champions Reinder Nummerdor/Richard Schuil from the Netherlands and Pedro/Cunha from Brazil (12th) earlier in the tournament, but were no match for the second seeded Brazilians.

The second semifinal between Dalhauser/Rogers and Cunha/Pedro was definitely more exciting, with the first set taking a stunning 40 minutes. The Americans eventually secured it with 40-38, needing 13 set points. Brazil failed at seven set points. The set score was not even a record, Dalhausser/Rogers lost 41-39 in the semifinals last year in Stare Jablonski to Marcio Araujo/Ricardo Santos. In the second set the top seeded Americans only needed 22 minutes and two match points to secure a spot in the final (40-38 21-19).

“It is all about entertaining the crowd”, Rogers said humorously as to why they needed so many set points in the first set. He and Dalhausser prolonged their FIVB World Tour men’s record match-winning streak to 40. On Sunday they will be going for number 41 and also for their 20th FIVB event title and third consecutive title this year after winning both Brasilia and Shanghai. Rogers: “It will not be easy. They will be going big time for us. Alison is an absolutely beast at the net. It will be the thin beast (Dalhausser) against the big beast.”

For Alison and Emanuel, trailing the Americans by 8-1, it does not matter whom they are up against. Emanuel: “Whoever will be on the court, we want to win. I just hope our performance will be the best we have played in the tournament.” The final of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour Prague Open will be played at 2pm (local time), the bronze medal match between Heyer/Chevallier and Cunha/Pedro at 1pm.

Earlier on Saturday Cunha/Pedro eliminated the Czech Republic's Petr Benes and Premysl Kubala in two sets , the home team being cheered on by the president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus. A 2-1-win against compatriots Marcio/Ricardo got Cunha/Pedro in the semifinal. Heyer and Chevallier defeated Latvia’s Martins Plavins/Janis Smedins 2-1 to reach the final four.

The winners of the $190,000 Prague Open will split $30,000, while the silver medalists receive $21,000 and third place is rewarded with $15,000. After 2008 and 2010 this is the third time a FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour event has been staged in Prague. The first edition was won by Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal from the United States, who finished 17th this year. Last year’s gold medalists were Dalhauser and Rogers, beating Alison and Emanuel in the final. Germany's Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann, who forfeited this year because of injury, won bronze.

The Prague Open is the first of two men’s only tournaments of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour 2011, the second will be played in Agadir, Morocco, in October. In two weeks the Swatch World Tour will continue in China with the $600,000 Beijing Open, the first Grand Slam of the season.

Olympic champions Dalhausser (right) and Rogers have made a terrific start to the 2011 season

Shanghai, China, May 7, 2011 – Top seeds and reigning Olympic champions Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers beat eleventh seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal in straight sets in a worldwide live televised all-American gold medal match to win back-to-back men’s FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour title at the Shanghai Jinshan Open here on Saturday.
“We did not expect to win back-to-back gold medals and it’s only the start of the season, so it’s a pretty good feeling,” said Rogers after claiming the 21-18 and 24-22 victory in 44 minutes in front of a packed stadium to finish the Shanghai Open with a 6-0 record and improve to 12-0 for the 2011 season. “It was a pretty good match and we were playing our compatriots. We have played each other a lot of times and we know each other very well, I hope the crowd enjoyed it.”
Trailing 16-11 in the second set, Dalhausser/Rogers ran off four points in a row to make it 16-15 before saving two set points and then taking the lead at 21-20. Gibb/Rosenthal managed to withstand two match points, but Dalhausser converted on the third with a solid block against Gibb to end the match and extend their FIVB Swatch World Tour match victory streak to 35 straight.
“I saw the situation when it was 16-11," Rogers added, who now has 19 career FIVB gold medals with Dalhausser. "We weren’t playing very well and I think they were playing quite well. Then we switched to short serves and they made an error and Phil had a block too and I got a dig and all of a sudden it’s a one-point game and it is anyone’s match. Fortunately we won it at the end.”
Dalhausser/Rogers, who won nine gold medals on last year's FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour as well as the season-opening Brazilia Open two weeks ago, split the top prize of $30,000.
“We still have a long way to go. It’s a good start and we couldn't do much better but we’ll see what happens. It still a very long season ahead and everyone is looking forward to the FIVB Swatch World Championships in Rome in June” said Dalhausser.
Dalhausser/Rogers also improved their head-to-head lead against Gibb/Rosenthal to 43-12 while Gibb and Rosenthal could be satisfied with the silver, the first podium finish for them since a bronze at the Myslowice Open in May 2009.
Earlier on Saturday, Germany third seeds Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann rallied past seventh seeded Spaniards Pablo Herrera/Adrian Gavira Collado 14-21, 22-20 and 15-10 in 52 minutes to take home the bronze medal and split $15,000.
“It’s always great to win a medal. We had a bad loss in the semifinal, but we still had a chance to win a medal,” said Reckermann. “We tried everything we could and I am happy that we made it.”
Herrera/Gavira, who suffered another full sets loss to Dalhausser/Rogers in the semifinals Saturday, came in fourth.
The $380,000 Shanghai Open will conclude on Sunday with the women’s semifinals and medal matches. The gold medal team will split $30,000, the silver $21,000 and the bronze $15,000.
This tournament is the second of 12 double-gender events on the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour, which also includes three single-gender events for women, two single-gender events for men and a special 24-team Olympic test event in London August 9-14.

Shanghai, China, May 5, 2011 - Three American teams led by reigning Olympic champions Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers continued their perfect record after the second day of the men’s Main Draw competition at the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour Shanghai Jinshan Open drew to a close on Thursday.
Top seeded Dalhausser/Rogers, who won nine gold medals on last year's FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour as well as the season-opening Brasilia Open two weeks ago, sailed past Polish eighth seeds Mariusz Prudel and Grzegorz Fijalek 21-17 and 21-14 for their third straight win in Shanghai and ninth in a row on the 2011 Tour.
Rogers was satisfied with his strong serving performance that helped the tandem take the match in 38 minutes. “I served some great balls, that’s great,” Rogers said. “They did not play very well, they can play much better if everything is OK, but they missed a lot of services.”
Dalhausser and Rogers now move on to the fourth round of the winners’ bracket on Friday morning and take on compatriots Nicholas Lucena/Matthew Fuerbringer, who came from one set down to beat Chinese fifth seeds Wu Penggen/Xu Linyin.
Going down tamely in the first set at 21-14, the American fourth seeds fought back fiercely to take the next two sets 21-18 and 15-9.
“They are a very good team, one of the top teams, so we are proud of ourselves," Lucena exclaimed after the match. "The second set is very important. We had a good sideout when it was 14-13 and that shifted the momentum. Every team here is unbelievable, we will just take one game at a time.”
Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal also joined Dalhausser/Rogers and Lucena/Fuerbringer in USA's unbeaten club with a 21-17 and 21-9 victory over third seeds and 2009 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch world champions Julius Brink/Jonas Reckermann from Germany.
The other tandem staying in the winners’ bracket after Round Three is Spain’s seventh seeds Pablo Herrera/Adrian Gavira Collado, who upset second seeded Brazilian duo Alison Cerutti/Emanuel Rego 21-14 and 28-26 to improve to a 3-0 win-loss record.
Alison/Emanuel, who finished runners-up to Dalhausser/Rogers in the Brasilia Open, were eliminated with another loss in the lower bracket later on Thursday.
Brazil’s Harley Marques, who had won three titles at the Shanghai Open with Pedro Salgado in the last four years, also crashed out of the double elimination Main Draw tournament with his new partner Thiago Santos Barbosa after falling to sixth seeds Eric Koreng and David “Hase” Klemperer of Germany 14-21, 21-12 and 15-10 in a lower bracket match Thursday morning.
Koreng/Klemperer and compatriots Julius Brink/Jonas Reckermann, Jonathan Erdmann/Kay Matysik still remain in contention along with Wu/Xu with one defeat each.
The Main Draw tournament of the US$380,000 Shanghai Open will continue on Friday with the men’s and women’s medal matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday respectively. The gold medal teams will split US$30,000, the silver US$21,000 and the bronze US$15,000.
This tournament is the second of 12 double-gender events on the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour, which also includes three single-gender events for women, two single-gender events for men and a special 24-team Olympic test event in London from August 9 to 14.

Shanghai, China, May 4, 2011 — Reigning Olympic champions Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers of the United States and seven other teams remained unbeaten in the men’s field of the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour Shanghai Jinshan Open after the first day of the double elimination Main Draw tournament on Wednesday.
Dalhausser/Rogers, who have won nine gold medals on last year's FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour as well as the season-opening Brazilia Open two weeks ago, eased past Chinese wild card Li Lei/Liu Bin 21-15 and 21-10 for an opening win in the 32-team Main Draw before holding off 16th seeds Jefferson Bellaguarda/Patrick Heuscher of Switzerland 21-12, 19-21 and 15-13.
“We didn’t play our best, but we have more experience and deal with the key points better,” said Dalhausser. “Anyway, we won the game eventually.”
It was tied at 13-all when Dalhausser gave the Americans the match point with a smart dink shot and Rogers stopped ice Heuscher on the next play to secure the victory for them.
Two more American tandems joined Dalhausser/Rogers in the undefeated club, namely fourth seeds Nicholas Lucena/Matthew Fuerbringer and 11th seeds Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal.
Chinese fifth seeds Wu Penggen and Xu Linyin, bronze medallists in the Brazilia Open, also kept a clean sheet after scoring a dramatic come-from-behind win over 21st seeded Casey Jennings and Kevin Wong of the United States in a second round match of the winners’ bracket. Overcoming a sluggish 0-6 start and a 21-14 loss in the opening set, Wu/Xu recollected themselves to claim the next two sets 21-15 and 15-13.
“Their counter-attack tactics worked very well against us in the first set, it took us a while to adjust,” said Xu Linyin, who was born in the city of Shanghai.
“We are getting better and better,” added Wu, who missed a shot on the first match point but converted on the second to seal the victory. “We have to be careful with every team and every match since all the strong teams are here in Shanghai.”
Other unbeaten teams are Brazil’s second seeds Alison Cerutti/Emanuel Rego, third seeds Julius Brink/Jonas Reckermann of Germany, seventh seeds Pablo Herrera/Adrian Gavira Collado from Spain and Polish eighth seeds Mariusz Prudel/Grzegorz Fijalek.
Brazil’s Harley Marques, who had won three titles at the Shanghai Open with Salgado in the last four years, went to the lower bracket with his new partner Thiago Santos Barbosa following an opening loss to Germany’s Erdmann/Matysik Wednesday morning.
The Main Draw tournament of the US$380,000 Shanghai Open will continue on Thursday and Friday with the men’s and women’s medal matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday respectively. The gold medal teams will split US$30,000, the silver US$21,000 and the bronze US$15,000.
This tournament is the second of 12 double-gender events on the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour, which also includes three single-gender events for women, two single-gender events for men and a special 24-team Olympic test event in London August 9-14.
