That would be in the city of Santa Barbara. Crazy comeback. Phil was awesome in the end after I just about petered out. By the way, if you have posted in the past month I have pretty much caught up with answering them. I have only 2 more to go and those are the 2 big ones. Will get on them though.
Always sweet just to play in SB much less win it. We played great all weekend. We beat Aaron and Scott 11 and 18 in our first match. Then we took down Ed and Ryan in our second one 15 and 16 or so. In our last match on Saturday we played Dax and Billy. Really good game on center court. They won the first 28-26. Billy was hitting really well and blocked solidly too. Dax was banging and using craft to sideout. The second was tight until right at the end when we won 21-16. The third was even up to about 6 and then we scored a bunch of points to finish 15-8.
Center Court was the most packed I have played on in a long time. Think an inch of sand on an indoor court and you have what we were playing on. Great for jumping but horrible for the body. I woke up Sunday morning and was soar as all hell. Give me the deep stuff any day over that packed garbage. I say move SB to East Beach where the sand is friendly.
Today we played 2 matches. Our first was against Jake and Rosy. It was a good match. The first went into overtime. I had a chance to win it and hit a weak line hit that Jake stuffed. We pulled it out though. The second was really tight as well. In the end we scored a couple of points and Phil stuffed Jake for match 21-18.
In the finals we played John and Brad. They have been knocking on the door all year long. They have played in 3 finals, all of them against us, and have been very very close in 2 of them. This one they probably should have won. We split the first 2 games. They were good games with back and forth action. Brad was getting up pretty big on the hard pack but of course so was Phil. The third game was the barn burner though. Came out and was down 9-4. Started off okay at 3-2 but then it went down hill quickly. In the end it was 9-14. I sided out with a chop shot down the line. Then Phil went back to serve. He kept it in at John. Brad gave him a tight set that Phil blocked. Controversial as John felt that Phil hit the ball first. I asked Phil and he said he though it was at about the same time. So we switch to the bad side down 14-11. The next one goes to John. It was a good pass, good set, but Phil stuffed it anyways. The next one went to Brad. Shaky pass and a tight set and Brad hit it out. The next one went to Brad and it was again a shaky pass and tight set and Phil was all over it. That tied it at 14 all. The next one Phil swatted Brad on a line shot on a tight set to put us up one. We traded a couple of sideouts and then I dug Brad in the angle. The ball went past the endline and Phil chased it down. I gave John a high free ball so that Phil could get back to the net. He proceeded to stuff John for the match and the win it 20-18. Pretty darn amazing and a great feeling for Phil and I.

Great recap thanks....I think there was a match in Arizona years ago before rally scoring with a similar miracle finish. Hovalnd and Dodd I believe were down 6-1 and came back and won. A similar ending as they had to beat the game clock I believe that was used in those days. I hope they show this on Fox Sports at some point. Have a great wek everyone! Scott from Cape Cod
Congrats on the big comback win in your hometown tournament in front of family and friends! You've done something Misty & Kerri haven't done since you've all gotten back from the Olympics(circumstances may not be the same). Way to keep up the intensity. Rest up for SF!!

PS Hovie/Dodd match was against Karch/Kent in a double final. Down 6-1 in a game to 7...I don't believe there was a time clock. Will have to dig up the videotape if I still have it. But regardless, that was a great comeback. So was this one and Todd&Phils comeback from 6-0 third game against Switzerland in Beijing.
Gold medal winning, Comeback Kids. This was even more improbable than the comeback against the Swiss because you were faced with Championship point...
Good to hear you got a little time to relax with the family playing in the hometown tourney.
Make sure you guys rest up for Manhattan. That might be the best double in beach volleyball history(Olympic gold and Manhattan Beach win).
These last two AVP wins are proof of your mental toughness. Being drained mentally and still coming through in the clutch...

Thanks for the recap on the game it sounds like it was a good one...unfortunatly they won't show it until next weekend on FSN(at 2am!!) I will have to catch it then. I'm new to beach volleyball, I'm more of a NASCAR fan, but from what I've watched so far it's really entertaining, so much so that I went ahead and bought tickets for the Hot Winter Nights Tour that will be coming here to Portland, OR.
Had a question about some of the "lingo" that's used during a match, such as "sideout"??? They say it alot, but not sure what it refers to....I know there's more words that I'm not familiar with, but I guess I'll pick it up in time.

You and Phil did such a great job on sunday at SB. It was such a great thing to see you play and I loved getting yours and Phils signature. I know I can just get it anytime but I liked doing it this way. I know that you are always on the go with volleyball, so it was fun to actually see you play! I loved seeing Phil play too and getting my picture with him. It is now my screensaver for my cell. Tell Phil that I said hi and tell him to shrink!!!! I FEEL SO SHORT!!!! Give nater a bid hug from me and I will see you at the soccer fields!!!!

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP)—Olympic beach volleyball gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh lost for the second time since the Beijing Games on Sunday and missed their first AVP Crocs Tour final since April 2007.
In the biggest upset in women’s volleyball this season, No. 3 seeds Jen Boss and April Ross beat the top-seeded team of Walsh and May-Treanor 21-18, 15-21, 20-18 in a semifinal match of the AVP Crocs Cup Shootout.
Last week in Ohio, May-Treanor and Walsh lost for the first time in more than a year, dropping a 21-19, 10-21, 25-23 decision to Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branagh in The AVP Crocs Cup Shootout. That snapped the two-time Olympic champions’ winning streak at 112 matches and 19 titles. Their previous loss came on Aug. 19, 2007, also to Branagh and Youngs.
Boss and Ross knocked off Walsh and May-Treanor for the first time in a semifinal and for the first time overall since 2007, when the duo last failed to reach the finals of an event.
Boss and Ross lost in the finals then went on to come in second, falling in the final to Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis 21-16, 24-22.
On the men’s side, Olympic gold medalists and Santa Barbara residents Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers celebrated a hometown victory by winning the AVP Crocs Cup Shootout. They outlasted No. 6 seeds John Hyden and Brad Keenan 16-21, 21-19, 20-18 in a match that lasted 3 hours, 18 minutes.
Dalhausser and Rogers trailed 14-9 in the third game before rallying to victory.
Soooo we went back to the SIDEOUT days. Damn...first two games to 21 and a game to 15...well, 3rd game to 20!!!! That's probably the only way a match can last 3 hours and 18 mins. Must be a typo. Since I mentioned it, to answer Jackie's question. SIDEOUT in Webster's Dictionary 2008 Edition is defined as a "bad volleyball movie where a washed up volleyball player who gambles too much and a novice can win a professional beach volleyball tournament against the best players in the world with only a few practices with a bad love story sandwiched in there too". It can also be defined as way back when,before point per play scoring(rally scoring), when your opponent is serviing, it was the act of winning a point to get the serve back because you could only score when you served. The best way to play in my book but because of tv and trying to maximize the entertainment factor, sideout scoring went the way to the dinosaurs. Hope I didn't step on any toes answering your question.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that Todd takes the time to answer each person's comments on his blog page. That's an incredibly nice thing to do for your fans and it is much appreciated, especially considering how busy you must be on a daily basis, so thank you for that.
Yes, Garret did answer my question, and I forgot to thank him for that....and I did not know that "Sideout" was a movie and from the description, not one I will be watching :-) But the actual play he referred to makes alot of sense, strange they don't do that anymore, I would think it would make the game more interesting....and I don't like the idea that you can play the ball after it hits the net, I think that if it hits the net, the play should be dead...but that's just my opinion...and since I still don't know much about the sport, I guess there's an explaination for it....
