First tourney of the AVP year. Weather looks abysmal but we can always hope for sun rather than rain, thunder and lightning. I leave tomorrow morning and get in late. Tough to get there. Only Delta and Northwest fly there. I am flying on Delta from SB - LA - ATL - PB. Hopefully we can get in without delays.
Phil and I have been practicing against the German team of Klemperer/Koreng. They are staying at Phil's house for about 3 weeks. Nice to have such a high level team to practice with. Also practiced against the Russian team of Barsouk/Kolodinsky and Wachfogel/Strickland. We have not practiced as much as we have the past 3 years but we have been rather busy with other things on the plate. I figure we may not be at the top of our game but then again, it is late March and I prefer not to be at the top of my game at this point in time. Rather peak come the WC, MB and other big tourneys.

i guess there is always the FIVB
Todd-
Looks like a 1 day tourney due to the weather down there. Funny thing is up here in Massachusetts we had a day yesterday that was better than some of the Summer weather we get. Looks like it will be a long day of volleyball for everyone in the single elimination format. Good luck. Did we ever find out if Klemperer is related to the actor that played Col Wilhelm Klink? Safe travels back to California and have a great week...Scott from Cape Cod
There is a free web TV feed of the matches from Florida over on AVP site. Womens Final is on now (530pm eastern) and they said Todd and Phil will play Gibb's team after this match. Should be some great action...free too...watch NCAA on my HD TV and AVP on my laptop...great technology!!!! GO TODD!!!!
Todd and Phil win game 2 after dropping game 1. Some kind of Air Force jet flew right over the venue during game 2 and that seemed to change the tide of the match in the favor or our guys here on the blog. I did a fair amount of drinking yesterday at the Umass vs Penn State lacrosse game so I am on the couch watching this great match on the laptop. Will report back after the rubber game.
I dont want to steal Todd's thunder on the recap but I think he will be too modest to say that he basically took over the match at 5-6 in game 3. A sprawling left handed dig and then a stupendous kill at 11-8 and it was over for Gibb and Rosenthal. Todd ate their lunch and drank their beer and there was nothing they could do about it but watch in disbelief...and get on the refs. Feurbringer on the commentary kept saying early in the match that Todd and Phil were mentally "out of it". The crowd was dead and the sun was setting. Todd and Phil remind me of the Red Sox from a few years ago when teams thought they had the game won but the Sox would just flip a switch in the bottom of the 8th or ninth and win. Great way to start the season and thanks to the AVP for the free web feed. IT WAS GLORIOUS...IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SUMMER! Congrats to Todd and Phil.
Scott- thanks for the kudos. The jet thing was killer by the way. Blue Angels in formation.
