I watched the HB Open here amid huge thunderstorms and tornado warning in Massachusetts. Great to see the "good guys" prevail. Hyden and Scott are like the frat guys you knew in college. They probably have scored with the ladies their whole lives and are cut like statues genetically. Todd and Phil are like most of us who had to work for everything and were never part of the "in" crowd. Hyden and Scott will get the invite to the Grotto at the Playboy Mansion while Todd and Phil would get invited to open the pool at the Solvang Red Roof Inn. Easy not to like Hyden/Scott duo for me.

As for today's match the first game was pretty much status quo for Todd and Phil...they made enough digs, blocks and played mistake free. Hyden and Scott appear to throw the ball on sets but dont get called. Phil is using the Karch Kirlay "drop to your knees while setting" method to perfection. Game 2 saw some bad calls against Todd and Phil and a loss. I think the bad calls fired up Todd and I saw Hans Stolfus tweeting updates during game 2 and I tweeted back that Phil and Todd would win game 3 15-10 and I was right on. Todd's falling cut shot that Geeter compared to a Kobe Bryant shot was the signature play of the match but Phil was the X Factor snuffing out any momentum by The Frat Boys with well timed Aces and Roofs. During the match Blanton mentioned there was a past match where Team Frat served Phil exclusively and won. Today Todd got most of the serves and was able to find enough sand to sideout effectively and I was suprised Hyden/Scott didnt both drop off the net after some deep serves.

Geeter, Kerry and Dain are still finding their way as a team in the booth but if Marlowe and Sunderland still have any breath in their lungs they should be doing these matches. Maybe NBC has their contracts in hand. They are the Vin Scully or for Celtics fans the Johnny Most of the sport. Glad to see Todd wearing the white Red Bull hat while the other guys wore the dark hats that retain the heat. Have you ever seen the Miami Dolphins wear anything but a white helmet in the heat of South Florida? It is all about the science.

Congrats to Todd and Phil....the good guys....they deserve all the spoils from their victories and lets hope they keep rolling all Summer long.

Boy Barnstable High 1978. I never heard anybody admit they are as much a LOSER as you are. Incredible self awarness my man!
I thought there were a lot of errors on Todd and Phill's side. Phil went into the net several times. Fill hit a ball over the net and was called. Phil had numerous serves into the net and out of the court. Yes in the end they won. Congrat's. But on the other hand AVP teams are starting to find ways to beat them. Rosie/Gibb took one game from them. And Hyden/Scott took one game from them. I think we will see them get beat again this year on tour for sure...it's just a question of which team will do it?

SOCALCHEAT- I saw two "LOSERS" on National TV last Sunday....The team of Hyden/Scott and the Lakers. If you think AVP and FIVB teams are "starting to find ways to beat" Todd and Phil you must be doing peyote with Tony Sporano out in the desert. I counted about 10 times that one of the Frat Boys fell to the sand in utter frustration after Todd and Phil made a spectacular play or stopped any momentum swings. Even the commentators said that Hyden/Scott dont have as rigorous a schedule as Todd and Phil but they still lose. Maybe you need a new TV set but your observations are about as accurate as those of Helen Keller.

UmassJSP...I was actually at the game. Man you have some serious personal issues with Hyden/Scott. I think Todd and Phil are a great team. They are a great team who can beat anyone. But great teams can be beat and it has not been that long ago that Todd and Phil have lost (last year 4 times). I agree they are on a roll. But (like the Lakers) Hyden/Scott will win again. I understand that you are deeply in love with Todd and Phil and well...thats your problem. Of course Todd and Phil have a rigorous schedule they play FIVB for Olympic qualification. Yes, to be so dominant, while traveling all over the world is commendable. It must be a rough, rough life. Your correct also that others (who don't travel as much...ie Hyden/Scott) should be able to beat them. But Phil and Todd are just too strong. I like competition. It gets boring when one team just wins over and over again. Maybe we could just call the AVP the "Come out and try to beat Phil and Todd show"? Whats up with the attitude dude? You watched it on TV? I was THERE!

      SOCALHEAT-
First of all we have some common ground...we are both passionate about the great sport of Beach Volleyball. The AVP needs a million more of us. I have been a fan since 1986 when New England Sports Network started carrying the Prime Network productions of the AVP. That is 25 years of watching the sport go to the top of the mountain and then into the crapper and now ascending again. I cant get enough of it and I have attended tournaments in my homeland of Cape Cod and also in Quincy MA and Newport RI. I met Todd and Phil in Quincy and they are great guys....I met Randy and Sinjin right down the street from my house on Craigville Beach and they are great guys....the AVP has superstars that connect with their fans and that is what makes it a great sport/experience.

We have always seen epic teams dominate this sport...from the days of Kent/Karch, Randy/Sinjin, Kerry/Misty etc. I think it is great for the sport to have a dominant team that people like you can root against and try to figure out ways to beat them. The thing with Todd and Phil is that they each have a unique talent set that can be utilized at any time to turn a match around. Phil with an Ace or Roof and Todd with a dig or pass. You point out a couple mistakes they made but they arent going to win every match 11-10. I dont like some of these other teams as you mention. By the way where are all the young guys as I think the combined age of the players in Sundays Final was 136 years? Lets see how the season plays out and keep posting your thoughts...Scott - Cape Cod Mass....GO CELTICS.
