Thanks for the updated schedule TJ. Also thanks for providing this forum for us fans. It looks like the AVP site deleted all of the fan comments on the latest new stories. The article by Hans Stolfus was very informative though. Someone needs to write a book about the rise and fall of the AVP. Maybe the Harvard Business School will study it. What a fiasco. Todd and Phil are thru to the semis over in Norway so at least we have some good news today. Enjoy the weekend and thanks again for this blog....Scott, Centerville, Mass
Hey U-Mass and others, a book has beem written about the AVP, and predicted this demise two years ago. Check out "Order On The Court" on Amazon and on eBay.

See you in Cincy, Todd!
Great Tom...didnt know that..I will buy that one on Amazon along with Adam Carollas new book which is going to be fantastic. Thanks.
I just saw that the Manhattan Beach tourney will still go on, run by the City and the CBVA. It looks like it will be pretty no-frills, sans stadium seating and such, but it's extremely awesome that the show goes on.
Todd - are you and Phil going to play? I sure hope so. It will be great seeing you and the rest of the AVP'ers out there. I imagine it will be an emotional weekend.
I am so hoping the AVP gets bought-up by someone and revamped / revitalized for a US tour next summer. It's especially hard for me to imagine all of the folks just below the International cut like Hyden/Scott and the talented up-and-comers like Aaron Wachtfogel, Matt Prosser, John Mayer etc getting jobs and becoming weekend players.
Good luck tomorrow on shooting for #8 on the FIVB this year, and I can't wait to hear your thoughts about the situation / future.
Drew
Wow! Eight wins on the FIVB tour, that is awesome. I was talking to a friend about the AVP last night. So I did a little homework. Dude you guys are simply dominanting both tours (AVP & FIVB). Since 2008,59 tournaments (AVP 36 & FIVB 23), 38 first place finishes. 15 other top 3. Oh yeah throw in the GOLD MEDAL! Simply awesome
Yes, Manhattan will go on. The set-up is old school. Bring your chair, and sand lock it for the entire weekend.
I am hearing that since the payouts will be low, top teams will choose to play in Finland. That could change. I noticed on the FIVB website that for Finland they have Casey Patterson playing with Kevin Wong. It is Casey Jennings who is playing with Kevin. At least that is what I was told by a reliable source.

I just watched the Kristiansand Norway Final on the NBC site. These FIVB tournaments are well.....foreign. The crowd looked like they had all been given valium at the entrance save for a few fat chicks from Brasil. Todd and Phil didnt look like they were at the very top of their games but the Brasilians spent more energy yelling a people about the water not being cold on their bench than on trying to win the match. Phil frustrated them every time they had a little momentum and Todd scooped enough balls to make this a fairly easy win. In the first set Todd and Phil were in complete command until the fat chick calling the baseline told the ref Phil touched a ball and reversed the point. Then the same chick kept brushing off the sand that Todd was using to weigh down the tape which was 2 inches above the sand. In the 2nd set Todd POUNDED a few balls and the Samba boys knew this match was OVER. Great to see our guys get gold for the USA which you know infuriates the Euros. Todd and the Brasilian kid who looks like Jack Sparrow from the pirate movie did get into some trash talking and Phil took a ball off the melon that got him fired up. ALL TIME RECORD 8 GOLDS....CONGRATS!!
The TV announcer for these matches reminds me on Bob Uecker in Major League as I picture him sipping Jack Daniel's while broadcasting. The medal ceremony has more pomp and circumstance than graduation from Yale. Todd and Phil got something that looked a Norweigian pipe or horn, a watch and some flowers. They were presented by a chick who was some kind of Royal in Norway...princess or something...more importantly I dont think she was wearing a bra and was definitely a Cougar. And who was the guy who did the post match interview...he looked like Indiana Jones.
Bottom line is that if all of the top AVP teams come to the FIVB I think the US men will DOMINATE....DOMINATE this tour....one thru five at least. Great win for Todd and Phil....they are playing in a foreign land, away from their families and still getting the job done...incredible. They deserve all of the spoils of victory....Scott

The Kristiansand open is a small event; ever heard of the Austrian Grand Slam in Klagenfurt:

Don't undermine the FIVB world tour level.
About fifteen of the best european team (Germany, Spain, Russia, Latvia...) were in Berlin for the CEV finals.
Phil and Todd are the best, there is no need to argue about that...but the rest of the US teams struggle internationally. Look at the result of Keenan-Jeenings, Rosie-Gibbs and even Fuerby-Lucena, there is no domination there.
It's even worst with the women teams since kerry and misty put an end to their partnership.
Dont trash the World Tour, since the AVP went down, this is going to be the main source of income for the best american teams.
Scott- Thanks. That horn is what the vikings use to guzzle there beer or what not out of. I will be using it to guzzle my beer as I sit and watch the NFL games and cheer on my fantasy guys. :) I have to agree with Nicolas that the US Men would not be 1-5 at least. The FIVB tour is considerably stronger than the AVP tour top to bottom. I would love to say otherwise as well but that would be lying. That isn't to say that there aren't about 8 US teams that could do well out here, but probably not on a consistant basis.
Drew- Phil and I will not be playing in MB. We will be in Finland. I have heard they are going to be using the big court and old school rules. Should be a great AMATEUR tourney if that is the case. Because lets face it, the pro tour has different rules and until such time those rules are changed, anything else is just a fun amateur event. Not that I mind that as I love old school rules. But it is unlikely that the team that wins MB playing old school is the team that would win using the current professional rules.
Marco- Thanks. I never really look at that stuff. Usually Phil keeps me informed on where we rank as a team and individually but in truth I am to the point where I don't really care anymore.
Todd
Todd, rumors (I mean: some websites in the Netherlands) say that there is a possiblity that you will be competing in the FIVB World Tour in the Hague next week. Is that true, or just wishful thinking?
Anyway, it would be great to see you in action there.
Todd,
I disagree with your comment about the team winning MB with the old school rules wouldn't win MB with the current rules. If you and Phil did play MB this weekend, I think, with your siding out and defense and Phil's block and jump serving, and the bigger court, you'd still be odd's on favorites to win. My 2 cents!
Good luck on the FIVB this weekend!
Garret
What a disappointment to hear about the AVP! Does it mean you guys will be in the Netherlands at the Milner Open (FIVB tour)?
Would be awesome to see you play in the Netherlands!
It's not Klagenfurt where I saw you win the final :) But would be looking forward to see a Dutch open finale Rogers/Dalhauser - Schuil/Nummerdor (A)
Won't be in the Netherlands. We signed up but I have some commitments back in the states that I cannot miss so we pulled out. Finland will be our last FIVB event of the year. Cincinnati will be our last domestic event of the year over labor day weekend.
Garret- I appreciate the confidence, but I don't think Phil and I would be the best team this year or odds on favorite. I think if we practiced we could be one of the favorites. I would need to get my jump serve back to my old school days and Phil would need to work on his dropping from the net. I think we would do okay but I would rank a couple of teams ahead of us if we were playing this weekend.
