Next Up, Hermosa

Always good to be in Cali in the South Bay. Weather should be a lot cooler in Hermosa Beach than in AZ. Plus, no flights, only a reasonable drive to and from home.

First and only 2 day event with a full field 32 team draw. My opinion: that helps the higher ranked teams get the motor cranking against a qualifier team. Although being the #1 seed can be a great thing but can also be a tough one. I have seen it where a really good team enters a qualifier as the 60 something seed, comes through, and the top seed ends up battling with them. Usually that seed quickly becomes a main draw team. Hopefully that won't happen this week.

I am sure Rosie's Raiders will be out in force for the hometown boy. The local watering holes are usually pretty busy at this tourney. Look for the balcony at Hennessey's to be going off due to the Red Bull party going on up there. Last year was very nice up there.

Come say hello if you are at Hermosa.

Thirty one minutes to victory in Round 1. Nice job! Did you guys even work up a lather? Keep it going! Like Vince Vaughn says in the opening scene of Starsky and Hutch "GET THE MONEY!" Scott from Barnstable, MA

Congrats on bringing home the Title. Must feel awesome. They are showing the Final here in Boston on Friday at 3pm. I need to invest in a TIVO. With the Benjamins rolling in I hope you are getting good investment advice. Karch had a good showing this week. The crowds must be on his side big time I would think unless he has his detractors in parts of California. I know how you guys out there have "area code territories" which we dont have here. You also call roads "the" like "the 5" or "the 405" which I have never understood. Anyway dont party too hard and keep it rolling...I am going to watch The Sopranos now. Scott from Barnstable

The 5 is a major transportation highway that runs from the Canadian/Washington Border to the San Diego/Mexico Border. The 405, 605, 805 are all Southern CA. arteries that run off the 5.

We have area code territories because everyone wants to live here, thus a boat load of numbers are needed. I myself have had 4 different area codes in my life to date.

Hey is the Big Dig in Boston still falling apart? Been to Nathaniel Square and the Old Foxboro.I wish Dunkin Donuts didn't leave my area here. I used to hang out at one in Hermosa after a night on the Hermosa Pier Area.

Now Todd, Thanks for the morning hello prior to your Sat. first match. I am sorry I wasn't able to watch a match of yours in it's entirity. The old school format was a blast, but man was I spent at days end, I did my best to get to see as many matches as possible. So many were overlapping each other it made it tough for a fan of the game like myself. So I send my apologies, but it looks likes things went very well for you. How was the Red Bull party? I love Hennessey's. Great Teriyaki Chicken Sandwiches, and a great Tuesday night 2-1 Hamburger deal.

They called the great NFL player Reggie White the minister of defense. Well with your Religious Studies degree and your defensive prowlness, I hereby call you the AVP's version of the Minister of Defense.

Sorry I hit the wrong identity button. It is me Arsenal 12

Arsenal-
What I meant was why do you people say " I am representing the 619" or why does Reggie Bush wear his area code on his eye black. Who cares what area code you "represent". It is like you West Coasters have gang territories defined by what area code you live in. Huh? And for the roads we would say here "I am taking I-5 to Route 405 and then exiting onto I-10." The roads are "routes" or "Interstates" not "the's". Anyway forget about that crap. Dunkin Donuts is making a comeback out west. There is one on every corner here but I am a Starbucks shareholder. The AVP tourney in August is in Quincy, Mass just south of Boston. The last time they had it there it was a parking lot event circa 1997. I think the water is too polluted there with all the bodies dumped from Southie (see Departed)to swim in but the location is not a good one. Cape Cod is just one hour south and one of the hottest vacation destinations in the World. The beaches there are where the AVP should have gone. You are going to have the same issues here with the Town Fathers if you want alcohol served as it seems you are having on the West Coast. The site in Quincy Mass is basically in a bar parking lot. Lets get back on track here. I printed all of Todds blog entries going back to his trip from hell from Miami to LAX. Very insightful and as others have mentioned a great place for the fans to find out what is going on with the Tour. The AVP should give Todd some of its PR budget to keep this thing going. Everyone and his brother has ideas for what the AVP should do to cultivate their fan base but where can we get feedback from the AVP Ivory Tower on why they played in parking lots in Miami and PHX and if these events were successful or busts financially? What we want as fans and what the AVP management can deliver may be 2 different realities. Like I mentioned in my previous post about the Final being shown here in Boston (a tour stop) at 3pm on a Friday afternoon. How are you going to win fans with that hideous time slot? I refuse to pay the $29.95 or whatever it is for the AVP TV. The Boston Herald tried to make all of the sports columnists pay per read on the net a few years ago and enough people didnt sign up to the point where it became free again. Hopefully the AVP will see that showing the matches for free is a bigger PR boon than locking out fans with an appetite for their product. While I am waiting for Todd's recap I will be over reading Bill Simmons free content on ESPN Page 2.
