Las Vegas & San Francisco

Something that I have not seen on the AVP website is where teams rank to go to San Francisco and players rank to go to Las Vegas. I wish they would put it out there as I find it very intriguing. Therefore, I will put it out there myself.

Minor Disclosure: These points could be wrong but I am pretty sure I am really close. :)

SAN FRANCISCO

San Fran. is for the top 8 teams on the year based on a teams best 6 finishes. Right now there is a major battle for the last 3 spots. 5 teams are pretty much in. They are:

Phil/Todd 2640
Stein/Mike 2380
Jake/Sean 2226
John/Brad 1874
Fred/Medel 1838

The other teams battling for the last 3 spots are:

KK/Wong 1422 and dropping 180 points
Dax/Sean 1196 and only adding points
Aaron/Scott 1188 and dropping 108 points
Mark/Nick 1170 and only adding points
Hans/Ty 1170 and dropping 108 points
Matt/Casey 1144 and only adding points

There are 3 old teams that are ahead of these guys but are not playing as of right now. They are:

Casey/Mark 1368
Olsen/Ring 1368
Sean/Furbs 1296

I suspect that several teams will pass these teams this coming week and it will be a moot point with perhaps the exception of Olsen/Ring getting back together for Cinci.

LAS VEGAS

For Las Vegas you have 6 guys who have essentially locked up one of the 12 spots. Only 12 players get into Vegas and the top four get bye's into the second round. This tourney is also based on a players best 6 finishes irrespective of who they played with. The rankings are:

1. Phil 1320 dropping 180
2. Todd 1320 dropping 180
3. Stein 1190 dropping 180
4. Mike 1190 dropping 180
5. Jake 1113 dropping 162
6. Rosy 1113 dropping 162
7. Hyden 937 dropping 108
8. Keenan 937 dropping 108
9. Fred 919 dropping 108
10. Anthony 919 dropping 108
11. Dax 899 dropping 104
12. Mark 885 dropping 108
13. Sean 872 dropping 104
14. Casey 850 dropping 108
15. Matt 846 dropping 104
16. Nick 795 dropping 90

There are others who could jump in but need 2 good finishes to do so.

As you can see, there is 143 points separating #7 from #16. One tourney could make the difference.

These tourneys really make a 9th place matchup very interesting. Guys and teams are scrambling for points. There is good money to be had in the season ending tourneys, not to mention they are a lot of fun too. Everyone wants to be there but only a few can go. If you are coming to NY or Cinc. look for some of these matchups and you will surely see a fiery game.

Thanks for posting the info on Vegas and San Fran. Not sure why the AVP doesn't show this information. You would think they would like to pump up there events and get the fans involved more. Keep up the great work blogging Todd. The site and information is awesome.

Just wanted to thank you, Phil and Sean for your mini-clinic in Charleston. My family and I just returned from our daughter's first VB game of the season and she passed/dug every ball she got her hands on (no shanks). Some of your magic must have rubbed off. Coach has her at libero though I'm trying to get her setting.

Dress warmly and Good luck

Jeff

PS if you find yourself with some down time and haven't been, try the 4th floor of the MOMA,
11 West 53 Street,
between Fifth and Sixth avenues

Phil and Todd have an approx 600 point lead in the Crocs Cup but the Brooklyn tourney is worth double and Cincy triple points. I dont think they can be caught for the Cup and I dont know what the prize for winning it is. NASCAR has "The Chase" which is promoted hugely for the 11 drivers who qualify during the "regular" season so you would think the AVP would be promoting the stats Todd has posted here for entry into the season ending tournaments. In the old days they also use to designate one tourney as "The U.S. Open Championship" which I havent heard this year. On another confusing note I see the FIVB Russia tournament next week has 3 USA Ladies teams entered but no Kerry/Misty. Are these other teams going to get an Olympic jump? Although I remember Kerry/Misty were the only USA team at the Canada FIVB matches. Someone needs to pull all of this year end volleyball data together and make some sense out of it. Todd do you have any chance of breaking the $1 mill career earnings this year...more data!!! Scott from Cape Cod, Mass

You are all welcome. I find it interesting and never understood why the AVP hasn't made more of a big deal out of the season ending tourneys. It is a big deal to the players involved.

Scott- The women who are going to Russia are only getting the same number of tourneys as Kerri/Misty.

No idea on the 1 million mark. I know that Phil mentioned it to me a couple of months ago but I have not kept up with it.

Todd, I thank you and appreciate you taking the time to keep us updated on things with your blog; I met Ty's mom in Charleston and have kept in touch with her...have asked her to get Ty to mention to Leonard or Matt about posting match times as well in the brackets so we can find our favorite players/teams and know when to watch on mosaic...just anything close to a guestimated time would be great when planning my day. Good luck to you this weekend sir....Alan Beverly/Birmingham/Al.

Hey Todd,

Well done in Manhattan and Boston. Nice seeing you in Manhattan. Thanks for the few minutes when we chatted about Euro.

Now who set-up this point system? I still don't get how some tournaments are worth more than Hermosa? How Manhattan is not triple points? The two tournaments with traditions far and above most of the others. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Todd and Phil are going thru the Brooklyn field like Rosie ODonnell goes thru a box of donuts. As for the seeding I see Todd and Phil being the #1 seed have to play the #5 seed in their next match while Hawaii 5-0 the #2 seed gets to play Team Dubya the #11 seed. There was a huge cry for re-seeding in the NBA this year when the Suns and Spurs ended up meeting in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Should the AVP be re-seeding as well? If I dont go to the Umass vs Holy Cross football game next Saturday I will probably purchase the AVPTV for the rest of the season which I think has been reduced to $9.95. Have a GREAT weekend everyone ! Scott from Cape Cod

Hey Todd,

Nice run your having, 3 in a row. How is the back? I know the feeling; ripped a couple of lower back muscles going up for a header on a corner. Got hammered hard in the air, and fell all out of whack. Hey if Karch and Kevin qualify for SF, do us all a favor and ask Karch if he will play. Thanks in advance.

Another great win for you and Phil...absolutely awesome play. You mentioned in your blog that these next few weeks would produce some fiery matches...you were right again. Good luck to you and Phil next weekend in Cincy for triple points...alan beverly/birmingham, al.
