My dad and I watched the game on NBC here in North Carolina. You and Dalhausser really stomped on the Brazilians at the end. You must be proud as a player, and as a coach. It was so much fun to cheer for y'all.

CHAMPAGNE TIME BOYS !!!!! I was wrong about the rain because they were showing tapes from yesterday but I was right on with a 3 set win prediction for The Golden Boys. I took the day off from work today and woke up feeling great. The whole day I was thinking about Todd and Phil but I had a strange calmness that proved correct...THEY WOULD NOT BE DENIED. In the second set it looked like the match was in the bag but then you guys started looking like the 1986 Red Sox and let it get away. But in the 3rd set you guys looked like the 1972 Dolphins..PERFECT. Congratulations to the blog posters like Garret and Alan that have been in here for years supporting Todd too. Those Brazilian fans were shut up and Old Glory is going up the flag pole first. At around 9-2 in the 3rd it looked like Todd might have injured his shoulder or had the wind knocked out on a crazy dig and I started sweating. I thought the Brazilians would go right at him but they served it right into the bottom of the net. I knew it was over then.....in the words of Kool and The Gang...CELEBRATION! By the way Melissa is beautiful and I am glad she got to share this with you. Cant wait for your comments and to see the Gold Medal..WOOOOOOO! Scott from Cape Cod

*********CONGRATS ON THE GOLD **********
Watched it here from Tulsa, Oklahoma on NBC loved watching both womens and mens team rip up the competition. As, I said in the previous comment. You guys wound up until you shut them down. Awesome, to see both womens and mens team get gold for USA holding the top place on the podium.

Hi Todd,
Your Aunt Wendy and I have enjoyed watching your Olympic matches, and we're extremely happy for you and Phil. Proud, too. Congratulations! This is an amazing accomplishment.
I admire the sportsmanship you and Phil displayed, and I think you did a great job as ambassadors of our country and the sport of beach volleyball.
Besides all that, you delivered gold on August 22, my 50th birthday! Thanks!
Best wishes to you and your family,

todd, just got home at 4:15 am from my shift at fedex and i have been stupid for the last 5 hours; as i stated in an earlier post after your loss to the latvians, it's not how you start, it's how you finish....what a fantastic finish it was! I told my wife, that when you won gold, I would buy you a bottle of montrachet, you chose the color, red or white, and I will fedex it to you...obviously your fans are so very excited for you. Continue to enjoy your time there. Alan Beverly/Birmingham, Alabama

Phenomenal match, Todd...talk about a ton of excitement following the matching into the early hours here on the East Coast. Enjoy the rest of your time in China, and safe travels as you come home.

Gold Medalists, Todd Rogers & Phil Daulhausser!! So about London in 2012!?!?! You know it's only 4 years away. You guys better start training.
REPEAT!!!! Just kidding of course! I imagine you & Phil haven't slept at all. It probably hasn't even hit you yet. Well, soak it all in. I can only imagine the media requests you're going to get at the last couple of tourneys! You know what? Take the rest of the year off cuz you can't top this, even if you win the rest of the tourneys. Well, you should play at Manhattan Beach. Like I said in one of my first posts on your Olympics, no one will remember your first match. Enjoy the rest of the Olympics, now that you don't have to think about your Olympics anymore. Oh hopefully you'll get to go on "The Tonight Show" with Kerri & Misty. Wish I could be there in person next week to see the reception you & Phil & Misty & Kerri & the other Olympians. All of the AVPers represented our county AWESOMELY!
Enjoy it again, Todd Rogers & Phil Daulhauuser, Olympic Gold Medalists!
I'm going to go watch the finals again.

I've been waiting to say, "Todd Rogers and Phil Daulhausser, Olympic Beach Volleyball Gold Medalists!!!!!" Sounds great rolling of the tongue. Congrats to you both!

Fabio must have thought he was trying to hit around the Great Wall of China in the third game with the block Phil put up. As Geeter says, "The most intimidating force in the world!"

Soak it all in. You guys deserve this so much.

USA double Gold, what could be better?

Great job Golden Boys

I have been a fan since you played with Dax. I am from Montreal, Quebec in Canada. Congrats on the gold. I was on the edge of my seat for two straight matches until the third match when I was standing and cheering. It was midnight here and my wife was not amused. Until of course she came into the living room and witnessed the three times Phil put the Brazilians "in the phone booth". She then celebrated with me! Great match! -DRB

Awesome job guys, that was a sweet match to watch in the finals! Aside from winning gold, what was your favorite part of being in Beijing for the Olympics?

So excellent!!!! Congrats!!!

Todd,

Huge heartfelt congrats to you and Phil. Seeing what you two have accomplished is SO inspiring. I can't wait to hear more about your experiences once you get a well-deserved rest and chance to relax into your amazing gold medal victory.

Some highlights I'll always remember:
- Losing to the Latvians, and you were still so positive and classy during the post-match interviews
- Being down 6-0 in the 3rd in the round of 16 against the Swiss, never losing faith, and coming back and freaking winning! SO amazing. Who does that?
- Getting better and better as the Olympics went on, as was evidenced by the amazing smackdown of the Georgians in the semis.
- Phil completely taking ownership of Jaws in that final game, starting the game with a block, ending the game with a block, and getting three blocks in a row at one point.
- Various absolutely sick plays by you, Todd, taking the definition of defense to a whole new level.
- Appreciating even more how the training you talk about in the blog paid off for you, as you skied WAY over the net on your attacks and you just kept getting stronger as the match went on - even in 100 degree heat.

I can't wait to see you during your last AVP matches of the season, which should serve as an awesome victory lap for you two.

Congrats again!

Great job, guys--what a beatdown in the third game, too! Way to stay strong when you were down in the first game. Once those butterflies were out, it was all over for the Brazilians. They played a great match as well (until the last set) although we were wondering how they did not get called on more of their hand sets.

Congratulations on the Gold Medal performance. All of America is proud of your achievement. Good thing that Fabio didn't mix of few shots in so Phil could roof all of his big swings. Amazing!!!!

Todd & Phil... I'm so proud of you guys! I love the pure joyful moment as Phil slammed down the block, and then pretty much tackled Todd. I laughed, and gave then gave a good fist pump for you guys. GO USA!

I hope you both are out celebrating the next few days and enjoying some time to relax before coming back to the States. Wonderful performance during the gold medal game and throughout the tournament. Great to bring the gold back to the US. It was also nice to see you were one of the few US athletes to actually sing the national athem during the medel ceremony. Congrats and way to represent the US proudly.

Congrats and a big THANK YOU for taking time out to bring each of us a little closer to a gold medal of our own with your stories over the past few weeks (months)...you made us realize just how personal a win like this really is to even the best of athletes.

Just wanted to add my congrats to you and Phil. It was great to see you guys win with class.

It looked to me like all your conditioning and training that you and Phil put yourself through really paid off. It was clear that in the third set, you both were fit and ready to go and the Brazilians were gassed.

Fantastic performance!

I was looking back at some of the posts on this blog from over a year ago. I saw the following comment from May 2007 I made here:
****************
May 23, 2007-You and Phil are getting to the point where you could be mentioned with some of the best teams of all time if you continue this run thru Beijing. I wonder how you guys would fair in a tournament with 3 of the best teams I have ever seen: Stoklos/ Smith; Karch/Kent; Hovland/Dodd? Stoklos could get into Phil's head as Hov could do too and throw him off his game. Phil might need some more seasoning as well but I think your combo of block and defense might pull you through on the present court dimension. On the old court I think Karch and Kent would wear everyone else out. Good fodder for conversation.
***************************
Todd responded that we might be able to discuss this in a year or so. Well here we are and I have to say Rogers/Dalhausser are right there with the greatest teams of all time. Steffes had a looping line shot that was his bread and butter but Phil would eat that up. Plus Steffes had the roomy old court to work with. Do we put Todd and Phil as the greatest team ever? I have to say yes. Stoklos and Smith never won Olympic Gold or had the international pedigree of Todd and Phil. KK and Steffes wouldnt be the same on the new court and Kent's serve wasnt as leathal as Phils. Hovie/Dodd would be a great team on the small court I think but they would have serving and defensive issues. And Hovland's act wouldnt play well with the FIVB. This could be argued but I say we are looking at the best team of all time right now in 2008....lets bask in their glory!!!! Scott from Cape Cod

i had to watch the match on replay b/c i wasn't home when you were "live"... you two are very hard to watch when everyone else in the house is asleep. :) congratulations on a wonderful tournament! watching all the US teams has been so fun - i have quite happily wrecked my sleeping habits. oh, and your mikasa photo ("all business") is my new wallpaper. geez, i just wanna go play!

I really did enjoy watching you guys play in all of your games that I got to see. Especially the gold medal game. My favorite was when Todd saw that the Brazilians were backing up because they thought he was going to hit it hard and then he just lobs it over the net and it dropped in between them. They had that "What the hell." look. Good going guys. I have a new sport to watch now.
