Update on things

Just wanted to let everyone know that I will blog several times about experiences, matches, ect... in Beijing. I figure it is worth doing a couple of blogs rather than trying to fit it all into one.

Also, I didn't answer any comments while I was in Beijing but have started doing so now. I have to go back aways and I hope to get all caught up by next week sometime. Hope to see a lot of you over the next several weeks as the AVP hits Cinci, my home town of Santa Barbara, San Fran., Manhattan Beach and Glendale, AZ.

Todd - thanks for keeping all of us "in the loop".

For those of you out there who are interested in seeing the complete semi and final matches (without the NBC commentary) including expanded coverage of the medal ceremony - go to this website:

I'm sure you're quite busy so we understand. Congrats to you and Phil on winning. Can't wait to see you guys play again in Manhattan Beach!

So I think I know what you and Phil will do to top the Gold in Beijing. You & Phil will do a guest appearance on "Dancing With The Stars", dancing with each other doing the foxtrot to support Misty! I was going through the schedule to see if Misty might miss a tourney because of the dancing and didn't see a Gods & Goddesses Tournament. I'm hoping that the last tournament is King of the Beach format and just renamed to the "Best of the Beach".
I can only imagine how busy you've been since you've won the gold. Wondering if you'll be throwing out any first pitches?
It's very cool that you find time to update us. So what do your kids think now that Dad is a gold medal winner? And if you write a book about the last two years, may I suggest a title for it..."From Cowbell To The Gold Medal". Whaddoyathink?

Garret,

To let you in on a little Rogers family history... Todd has a few local Ballroom dancing titles to his name when he was a kid..... so you might just be on to something with the dancing with the stars thing. His wife is a great dancer as well, so you never know what he might bring to an event like that...

RE: UCSB alumni Anna here. I'm getting old too.. I understand you don't remember (sigh). :) Also thought you'd get a chuckle out of knowing that our phrase of the day in my Spanish classes on Friday after your victory was: GANARON EL ORO!!! -(They won the gold!!!) As we were doing preterit tense (past) that day, We used your pictures on the LCD in making different sentences and asking.. Who won the gold? (Quien Gano el oro).. Todd gano el oro.. (missing accents.. killing the teacher here). Did you win the gold??? No.. I didn't win, but Todd won the gold.. (All in Spanish) . ETc. ETc.. But you were def. the topic and hit of the day. Thanks for providing inspiration to our country.. and to the little Spanish classes at Staley High in Kansas City and making our learning relevant and a little more fun. It is so funny listening to the kids talk about you.. :) The guys think you are "rockin" and the girls still think you're "hot". :) Not a surprise to your wife I'm sure!! :)
My hubby and I will be in Santa Barbara and Buellton (close to you in Solvang! ) in October for a wedding and then to run the Long Beach marathon. Maybe I'll see you on the beach playing..or maybe I can talk my principal into a class trip to see you in the Christmas parade! Hee hee.
Cheers to you for following your dreams! Your family is gorgeous. Great fun seeing all your pictures.-Namaste

Me and my friends are doing a project for school on oakley sunglasses and we just wanted to know some details about that night when you played latvia and your sunglasses fogged and could you tell me what you think about the sunglasses please?
It would be great if you answered me thank you very much.

Todd and fans:
Phil and Todd were written up recently in the prestigious Uni Watch Column by Paul Lukas on ESPN Page 2. Here is the blurb where Lukas is answering Olympic uniform questions. If you go to the actual link below the blurb they have links to see pics of Todd and Phil...being on ESPNs radar means you have really made it...CONGRATS:

There are so many corporate-branding shenanigans going on -- can't you pick on someone else besides Nike?

Sure. You may have noticed that American beach volleyballers Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers have been wearing sunglass frames with no lenses (no, they're not clear lenses -- they're really just lens-free frames). Why? Because their lenses were fogging up, but they didn't want to scrap the eyewear altogether because they have an endorsement deal with Oakley. So going with the plain frames allows them to keep wearing the Oakley "O."

good luck in cinci, sounds like strong ticket sales

You know, I thought that was a little weird too re: Oakleys. But if they're gonna pay...you know, you can use the frame as a head band, for vball-ers with long hair. Oakley should have understand though or given Todd & Phil air conditioned lenses!
I got some not-so-old volleyball videotapes from my parents from the 2004 AVP. I was watching the Tempe tournament which was Rogers/Scott vs. Kiraly/Lambert. I didn't remember the outcome so I do have to admit I was rooting for Kiraly but it was a great match. 3 games with Kiraly & Rogers absolutely digging lips. Todd finished it with a dig and a loopy line shot over Lambert. Great stuff. Sorry I wasn't rooting for you, Todd.

I am still amped from your victory. Some of my friends are beginning to understand why I love this sport so much. USA winning Gold, there is nothing better. I off to Lake Tahoe for the Labor Day holiday. I will see you in SB next weekend. Life is good for me(Tahoe one weekend, then SB the next).

Ho Hum *yawn* another win by Todd & The Beijing Beast. Whoop dee doo! This winning is getting boring or am I just spoiled? Hope you can read the sarcasm in my typing. Congratulations again on a great tournament. With all the traveling & other non-volleyball activities you've had after winning the gold in Beijing, no one could blame you for a letdown. But you guys keep rollin'.
Can't wait to see it next weekend.

Short & sweet: Congratulations on Beijing & Mason. Welcome back to the states.

Awesome, now winning the AVP Mason,Ohio matches.

I missed both womens and mens matches but get to catch the scores online. Would be nifty if AVP site had a stream of all the matches. They may have one, but did not see it on the AVP site. Saw one for an old stream link , but nothing on the new ones, they just have the highlight vids.

Hey Todd!

This is Angie. I had you sign my book today at the taping of the Oprah Winfrey show in Chicago. I was the girl who handed you the pen instead of shaking your hand..and then asked for a picture with my cell phone! Anyways, just wanted to thank you for taking the time to be so gracious to all your fans. Hope everything goes well for you this year!

Thanks,
Angie

I hope you had fun on Oprah and when they show it on tv, it's not just the Michael Phelps hour...and enjoy your special day. You certainly deserve it!

I got a note from the Volleyball Tribe that Todd is being honored in Sovang. Plus he gets a trip to Chicago to meet America's richest lunatic Oprah. Personally I would rather meet Sarah Palin!!! Todd enjoy the limelight while it lasts...you guys deserve it. I see the AVP Winter Nights is coming to Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut which is only about 90 miles from here. Hope you are in the mix for that....Have a great weekend...Scott from Cape Cod

I’ve waited a couple of weeks to send my congratulations since I imagine that you were flooded with messages. But here it is… WOW! Way to go, that had to be an incredible experience. You’re performance was outstanding and your ability to focus and maintain a high standard is extraordinary. Obviously you are talented and so is Phil. But what I saw was an ability to stay focused, manage strategy, emotions, your partner and your performance with little disruption or getting distracted. You and Phil made it very hard for your opponents to beat you because you made so few errors and made them play to a standard they could only produce in spurts but not maintain (evident in game three.) What a great blend of athletic talent and superior thinking. I loved it!!

Anyway, you’ve got my respect and admiration.
Take care and enjoy,

Lindon
