Long Beach
I just wrote a long post on Long Beach and of course right as I finished the internet went out on me. So, I am not going to retype it all. Needless to say, we played pretty well. Finals were fun to play and from what I am told, fun to watch. The word for the weekend really wasn't about the play though. It was about the viability of the AVP in the coming months and years. I hope to touch base on that as I find things out but to date and I don't have much information to go on. When I do I will post something.

Too bad your LBC post went down the porcelain...I am sure it was entertaining. A few times I have written long comments here and then when I go to upload they vanish. So now I try to copy it to clipboard before uploading so I have a copy. The comment about the AVP solvency seems a little scary. It seems that things are going in the right direction with ESPN, Nivea and playing on real beaches again. Lets hope management of the tour is not milking all the cash out and they reinvest in the product. Enjoy Europe Todd....Tomorrow I am taking a week off at the beaches of Cape Cod and Nantucket...cash will be spent like water. Good luck to everyone...Scott

Thanks for the link Marco...that story lead me to some of the other news about the AVP. Boy, I am blindsided. I thought the AVP was in the land of milk and honey with the matches on ESPN and the new title sponsor.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the AVP Tour might not even make it through the last half of its season due to financial concerns. Tour CEO Jason Hodell stated that the problem has been with securing sponsorships, as if having to rename it "The AVP Nivea Tour" wasn't already enough proof.

I had no idea of the gravity of the situation. Hopefully they find an infusion of money and the scheduled events go off as planned. At this point any sponsor would be welcome. In the old days the ladys tennis was The Virginia Slims tour and NASCAR was Winston Cup. The AVP had Cuervo and Miller Lite as sponsors. As a HUGE AVP fan I dont care if the money comes from smokes or booze but we need the tour to continue. Hopefully Commissioner Dodd keeps us informed.
At Scott UmassJSP - I myself have seen all the good times and bad times since 1972 (10 at the time), and somehow or another what I call my personal Disneyland "The AVP" or back in the day "Parks & Recreation - P&R" they managed to survive. So I won't speculate, I just continue to have faith in those who currently run the ship. In the meantime I will just sit and enjoy the last two weekends (Hermosa and Long Beach).

Just spitballing here but if you can get a message to Commissioner Dodd I have an idea. I own a lot of stock in a company called Brown Forman. They make Jack Daniel's whiskey, Southern Comfortt, Herradura Tequila along with many other beverages. Tell Dodd to get an audience with their CEO Paul Varga who is in Louisville. Varga played tennis for U of Kentucky and loves sports. Maybe they can strike a deal to get AVP some sponsorship dollars.
The US ladies had a poor showing in Austria...no medals coming from that side of the field. Have to count on Todd and Phil again to represent. Ross and Boss have done nothing overseas...strange. I am heading for the beach now...have a great weekend everyone.
