without trying to sound redundant

NICE

Todd you played very well. Dug some incredible balls. Keep up the momentum

Wow! That was a really amazing performance. I don't recall seeing you have so many impressive digs in one match before. Not only getting the ball up, but placing it so beautifully to Phil. People make a big deal about how nice it must be for you playing behind Phil's block, but it must be equally nice for him to be the recipient of those digs. Bravo and thanks for the great show, Todd. That was really fun to watch.

Congrats on the win! In case you missed it, there was a nice article on you and Phil in USA Today last Friday. Here's a link to the article: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/beijing/volleyball/2008-07-17-beach-volleyball_N.htm

I caught the Final from Brooklyn on NBC. Todd an Phil really bum rushed Scott and Lucena off the beach in a hurry. At one point Kiraly and Marlowe commented that Phil was actually Todd's 3rd choice for a partner when he started looking. Then they said Phil is now the number 1 sought out partner in the "world" and "anyone can win with him". Then Kiraly cracked "even Marlow and Heather Cox could win with Phil". I was enraged at that commentary as it is obvious that Todd has taken the lump of coal that Phil Dalhausser was and turned it into a shiny diamond. Marlowe and Kiraly did give Todd props for jumping "sneaky high" and having confusing shots but sure Phils blocks are spectacular but the real key to this team is Todd's defense and cunning. They spoke of how Todd has urged Phil to move his feet to get in front of the block and hold his arms closer together to avoid getting hit in the melon. As I have mentioned before I saw Kiraly at tournaments in Boston and Cape Cod and found him totally aloof. Marlowe I saw in Newport Rhode Island getting out of an NBC limo and he thought he was the second coming of Elvis Presley. Todd and Phil are real people and when I saw thme in Boston last year they have a great rapport with the fans. I dont know about the rest of you fans but I loose my breath every time Todd or Phil lays out for a ball with the Olympics so close. I will say a prayer for you guys at the Church near Craigville Beach here in town....Congrats...Scott from Cape Cod

Congratulations again on winning my hometown tourney!! I got to see two rounds in person and the finals on NBC and I know it's not easy but you and Phil sure are making it look that way. Besides a few bad sets by Phil, you were pretty flawless on your sideout game.
Never knew that Phil was 3rd on your list of partners. Good thing Lambo never got back to you, eh?
I always look forward to your thoughts every week but this week's should be a great read. Have fun at dinner with George & Laura!
Lastly, I'm very appreciative of the time you took to chat. THANK YOU!!

Todd,

Firstly, I continue to be impressed by your team's dominance over your fellow AVP teams. It's amazing to watch, especially on HD.

Anyway, was wondering if you could clear up a bit of controversy. Initially, Marlowe reported that your wife declined the invitiation to meet the POTUS due to political reasons, but during the next day's broadcast, "corrected" himself saying Mrs. Rogers simply doesn't want the headache of travel. Could you clarify, as a bit of travel doesn't seem a legitimate reason to decline an invitation from our President. I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, especially their political ones, however it just seems wrong not to accept this honor, that many of us would be privileged to accept. Or maybe I'm just so tired of people holding W accountable for every possible grievance and the way that vitriol is tossed around so casually.

It seems only fitting that I answer the previous question. Todd and I were absolutely honored to recieve an invitation to the white house for dinner. I am and always have been a republican and have a great sense of pride for the country which we live in.

If we had a bit more notice, I would have gone in a heartbeat! However, the invitation came only days prior to the rsvp and security clearance needing to completed. I was looking at 2-3 days of needing to come up with childcare (kids out of school), a house sitter to take care of our pets, work arrangements and expensive last minute travel arrangements. Being that my family is already taking time off of work to help out with the kids for the Olympics, the logistics of this trip just were not going to work out. Do I hate travel?...yes, as I do not and never have traveled well. However, had the there been a bit more notice I would have jumped at this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Chris Marlow very much so offended both me and my family with his very public assumptions as to why I did not attend. I can only hope that in the future, more care will be taken when discussing the athletes and their families.

Sincerely,

Melissa Rogers

I did not watch either of the finals this weekend (traffic school and family commitment). So I wonder how it is going to be for Mr. Marlowe this weekend in Long Beach? When he is calling a AVP tournament he generally likes to get out there and talk with the fans all the while watching the action going on the courts. Should be interesting.

As I mentioned in my post it seems that Marlowe and Kiraly are having issues with Phil and Todd being in the spotlight that they once enjoyed. The limelight isnt pointed in their direction and they are taking veiled shots at our World Champions in my opinion. An on air apology from Marlowe seems in order. Maybe all the Rogaine and Propecia has seeped down inot his brain and he is losing it...I dont know. Thanks for the excellent post Melissa and we all know that a HUGE amount of Todds success comes from your support. I cant leave my wife and 2 daugheters alone for 5 minutes without a major disaster occurring!!! Scott from Cape Cod

As far as Chris Marlowe's assumption, there was no excuse for it and along with his retraction, there should be an on-air apology.
As far as Karch & Chris comments on the NBC broadcasts, I'm wondering if you're watching the same broadcasts as I am. Comments that they are the best blocker and defensive player in the world respectively sure sound like they have "issues". Saying that anyone can win with Phil, even Heather Cox & Chris Marlowe, it's a compliment to Phil and self deprecating humor(Chris himself said he wouldn't win with Phil). I've been watching beach volleyball since the Prime Network days and Marlowe & Sundy used to use that line to compliment a player. Your opinion is your opinion and everyone is entitled to have one but I just can't disagree with you more.

Melissa, appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post, as frankly, it was more directed towards yourself, rather than Todd.

Perhaps Marlowe was unfairly attributing his OWN opinions to your situation, or perhaps he just lost his mind for a moment.

Thanks everyone.

I did see the USA Today article. It was a good one.

Scott- Thanks for the prayer. :)
Phil and I compliment each other as a team very nicely. On each team there is a guy that garners the "raves" if you will. Phil is that guy for our team. Stoklos was for he and Sinjin and Karch always was for whatever guy he played with. It is the way it works and I am okay with it. Phil doesn't even enjoy the attention so it isn't like he wants it and seeks it.

Garret- Good to see you again. Thank you for the gift and I am glad you had a good time. Bummer you had to work on Saturday and could not come then.

Alan- Will blog on the White House.

I will also blog on all the hoopla surrounding the wifey.
